What I Made Wednesday :: Link Up # 19

This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind for me. On the weekend, I went up to Sauble Beach with a bunch of the women from my church on a ladies retreat. On the main strip, I discovered a small and wonderful gift shop. I gathered up courage and some business cards, and I approached the shop owner about carrying my journals in her store.

And she said she wants to see some samples! YAY! I was so scared about approaching her, but she was very sweet, and she loved the idea of carrying my re-purposed leather journals. So I have to find some time before the summer beach season really hits to go up there and show her samples, and hopefully she will purchase some. That would be neat!

Anyhoo, here is my newest journal, which I made last night:

Last week's most viewed link-up was these adorable hedgehog pincushions from Leikey
(who is local to me - Toronto!)

  1. The journal is lovely - and I really admire you for plucking up the courage to approach the store-owner! I hope she decides to take some of your things. It's the kind of thing I think about doing and then chicken out right away!!

This is the latest thing from me

I'm not sure if the picture will show or not but it's a teapot lavender bag.

    1. Yeah, I usually chicken out right away, but I thought, 'if she says no, then when I come back in the future, she probably won't even recognize me!'

I linked in your item, I hope you don't mind. :)

  2. Congratulations on the opportunity. That is super exciting. I would be thrilled to have your journals in my gift shop if I had one. Oh, and a ladies retreat sounds wonderful and a great reason to be carrying a journal. I have been eyeing them for months. Thank you for the link-ups!
    xoxo Andrea.

  5. RUN back to Sauble Beash ASAP - strike while your lovely face and amazing products are fresh in her mind - and while she still has her purchasing budget available before some other entgerprising soul comes along - take all your sizes AND the hard cover re-purposd books ones too.

Love the ones I have from you they are AWESOME !!!!

    1. I'm hoping to go back this coming weekend; I just have to find someone to watch the kids, since they will NOT sit through the 3 hour drive (both ways!) very well.

I was thinking about bringing just the leather journals, but maybe I will bring the book cover journals too...

      Thanks, Renee!

  6. Good for you! The worst that can happen is that someone says no.

    1. That's right! And the fact that I'm not going to be driving 3 hours to get to Sauble beach very often, so if she does say no, it's not like it's going to see her very much...

  8. Shirley,

Your journals are fabulous! I am willing to bet that most boutiques, with a flush budget, would carry your items.

In addition to the wholesale order, what if you set up a referal system for custom orders? As an incentive to the shop for their custom orders, you could offer them a discount on their next wholesale order.

I agree with Renee - run back to the beach quick!!♥

    1. Thanks, Wendy! I hadn't thought of doing a referral program... I'll have to think of the logistics of that one... :) -Shirley
