26 March 2013

Today we're having a chat with Chelsea from Notional Notions.

Tell us a bit about who you are. I'm originally from California but I studied art in Texas and then moved to Italy for two years. I love to travel and have a hard time staying in one place or sticking to a singular medium. But overall, I'm a pretty easy going lady.

Tell us about your craft and how you got started. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember but I really got adventurous with my craft in college. That's where I fell in love with bookmaking and watercolor illustration. But I've tried everything from Intaglio printmaking and welding to tattooing and children's book illustration. I like being a Jane of all trades, master of none.

Where do you get your inspiration from? Everywhere, and that's no exaggeration. My art space, "the bubble," is typically a gigantic mess because I've gathered so many postcards/books/photos and ideas from places I've traveled to (and hoping to travel to one day!).

Who is your favourite artist/creative person? Hard to pick just one, it usually changes depending upon what I'm working on. A couple I've been loving lately are Janice MacLeod's travel letters/illustrations, Stephanie Brown's tattoo work and designs, and the lettering work of Jessica Hische

What do you love most about what you do? I love getting my hands dirty, this is likely why I struggle with the digital art realm so much! My art bubble may be messy but that usually means I'm happy and creating.

What do you do when you're not creating? For my 'real grown-up job,' I teach art lessons. Which is a pretty awesome alternative to not making my own work; getting to hang out with kiddos and essentially just play and watch them create. It can be pretty amazing watching what they come up with!

Thanks for sharing with us today, Chelsea!

I think I may have just found my new favourite thing on Etsy!!! Just as good as searching for that perfect bar of soap, searching for candles is just as exciting!!! And the pictures really help, since the props are a symbol of what scent the candles are - yummy!!! Here are a few of my favourites:

I can't wait to try one of them; I just can't decide which one to try first! Any suggestions?!

Featured Artist :: ColorStore2011

Since I've been losing weight and inches, I've gained a wider appreciation for clothes that I wouldn't have even looked at before. Take ColorStore2011 for example. I wouldn't have considered many of these pieces because a lot of them are so full of colour, and they make people look at the person wearing the pieces.

But now that I'm about half way to my goal weight (down 30 lbs!), I actually want to wear some of these pieces. Amazing, eh?
Out of these pieces, I like the red coat and the pink maxi skirt the best - these are now on my list!!

Come and take a look around - you'll be surprised about what you like here.

Here are just a few of my favourites.

Head on over to Shandke and try NOT to love what you see. just try!

Featured Artist :: Sofia Sobeide

There are so many things I love about Sofia's Etsy shop. Her talent for knitting and crocheting is one that I could only dream about (I don't think I could ever do the Amigurumi - I can't follow a pattern). Knitted and crocheted goods are definitely one of my favourite things to peruse online.

Here are some of my favourites from Sofia's shop:

And there is so much more to discover and see in her shop! Head on over and take a look.

"Recycled materials come to life". This is the tag line for Reclaim2Fame's Etsy shop. I love seeing all the adorable creatures that Will makes with these reclaimed materials. Here are some of my favourites:

I love the eyes and the tail on this little doggy.

 This guy reminds me of one of the little decepticons in Transformers.

I love his stumpy little feet.

A little frog-like creature!

 Take a look in Will's shop and find your own favourite creatures!

Featured Artist :: Shannybeebo

I'm sure you have heard at least a little bit about Shannybeebo by now, with all the giveaway goodness going on this week - right now, actually!

Here are just a few of the things you can find over at Shannon's Etsy shop:

This clock is my favourite. I would LOVE to see this hanging in my house, probably on the second floor landing.

This would make a darling, yet subtle, Valentine's Day gift.

I think it's so cool how the sides are all folded up like that - gives it a really retro look.

This is a marble pendant. I love how it's all cracked and... marbled. That clear one with the orange in it on the bottom right is my favourite.

Another clever Valentine's Day gift - felt flower magnets!

And there is so much more to see in Shannon's shop. Head on over and take a look!

Featured Artist :: Art et Manufacture

I love Edith's work - it reminds me greatly of Delft porcelain pieces, although I know this is not what it is.
Here are some of my favourites from Art et Manufacture:

I love the workmanship, the colours, the photography, everything about Edith's shop. Definitely a must-see, in my opinion.

I find that my appreciation for bolder pieces of jewellery is growing - much quicker than I thought it would. Only a 3 or 4 months ago, my jewellery was simple, monotone (usually silver) and small. But now I find that I'm just LOVING colour and boldness! Here is a great example. Summer makes these pieces of resin jewellery that just blow my mind. in a good way.

Obviously I'm loving red today! lol (it must have something to do with Christmas - I'm not sure!)

And there are so many other designs and colours in her shop, so go ahead and get your mind blown. in a good way.
